PREMIERE: The BattleCat returns with his most energetic single yet, ‘Running in Circles’
Brisbane's beloved bedroom-dream-pop-king William Wright aka The BattleCat returns with his third single ‘Running in Circles’.
Up-beat, boogielicious and oozing with disco-licks, ‘Running in Circles’ see’s the artist explore a new direction of sounds, beats and melodies as he continues to grow and cement his place in Brisbane’s music scene.
Initially starting out as an indie rock track, ‘Running in Circles’ was developed over many months in-between lockdowns and zoom sessions. This saw The BattleCat returning to work with long-time collaborator and producer Samuel Fudge, who brought his love of synthesis and dance music to the record.
As a standout during his live performances, Will says the track was developed through their crowd’s reactions and responses from different shows.
"Every show we would play new versions of the track to see how people would respond,” he said.
Through endless cycles of repeating the same routines day in and day out during the lockdown period, writing the song became a form of therapy for Will.
He said that the track was written about re-experiencing the same mistakes.
"During lockdown, the days felt the same, I was waking up and ending the day almost identically to the one before; it felt like my life was going in circles,"
“In a time that seemed so dark when I was writing it, I needed something fun to listen to”
Acting as an escape from the constant routines of lockdown life, this track couldn’t come at a better time for fans across Australia
