Groovin the Moo finds new Queensland home on the Sunshine Coast

Much loved all ages ‘moo-sic’ festival Groovin the Moo (‘GTM’) is set to return to Queensland for the first time since 2019 … with a new home.

Instead of Townsville, the festival will now call the Sunshine Coast home.

It’s a move that will come as good ‘moos’ for some, but has left Townsville groovers feeling a bit stuck in the mud.

Despite this, GTM’s Steve Halpin said the new location is cause for serious celebration.

“We are so happy to be able to do a full tour across the country in 2023,” he said.

“Whilst we are very sad not be returning to Townsville, we look forward to bringing GTM to the Sunshine Coast.”

From humble beginnings in 2005, the festival has quickly grown to one of Australia’s most beloved touring events of the year.

GTM was a mainstay of the Townsville calendar, running at the city’s showgrounds from 2008 until 2019.

This year marks the first time the festival will return to Queensland following the COVID-19 pandemic.

GTM boasts an impressive alum of Australian and international acts, including Billie Eilish, Silverchair, Hilltop Hoods and The Black Keys.

The one-day, all-ages romp is set to take place at the Kawana Sports Western Precinct (on Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Country) on Sunday April 30.

Steve Halpin said he can’t wait to return to Queensland.

“We have missed you terribly and can’t wait to bring back the good times around the country.”

The line-up is set to be announced in the coming months and promises to be ‘udderly’ fantastic.
