When we first started producing/writing slap, the initial idea was something ‘mean’ and ‘bad ass’- something similar to ‘quiet on set’ by Remi Wolf. But things really evolved quickly.
The chords lightened up and the beat became quiet boppy!! We decided to just go with what was happening and ended up creating slap!
You may notice Caroline in the chorus sounds a lot higher than she usually does; this is because we slowed down the whole song so she could get all the syllables in and never miss a beat, so when we sped it back up she sounded higher pitched!! Our nan thinks it funny and that she sounds like a little kid.
Josh absolutely slayed the bass, which i think is the best part of the song. It’s super boppy and has a bit of a disco vibe. Working with josh was such dream; i’ve been a big fan of his production and to be able to work and write with him was so much fun; we all clicked so well in the studio… there’s more to come with josh ;)
Another fun fact, verse two was originally going to be sung by Caroline, but it fit me better key wise! Lyrically, however, it doesn’t fully make sense to me! i’ve never had an ex and i fucking love my bangs… #bangssavedmylife !! but then again, the lyrics are just suppose to be fun… but i need everyone to know I LOVE MY BANGS!!! MY BANGS DO NOT MAKE ME LOOK 30!!! MY BANGS MAKE ME HOTTER!!!
