Wanderer Festival day one is amongst us and what better way to kick off the spring festival of the year than with a Sunset Mixtape from Northeast Party House!

For all my picks I’ve chosen really long uplighting dance tracks that take time to unravel and gradually build in energy.
I was tempted to throw in some classic guitar sing alongs (Wonderwall, My Happiness etc) which definitely fit the brief but I’ve decided to stick with tracks from the dance world.
SUNSET - NORTHEAST PARTY HOUSE
We wrote this track specifically for that magic moment at a festival when the sun sets and the energy of the entire crowd shifts a few gears into party mode. Our intention behind the drawn out build up/break down was to make it as euphoric as possible which has made this track a really special moment in our live show.
LSD-25 – BUTCH
This track samples the epic Maggot Brain by Funkadelic, adding a four to the floor kick drum underneath a 10 minute psychedelic guitar solo. This tracks gets me locked into a trance like state which is the perfect way to experience a setting sun.
CATHEDRALS (JAMIE 3:26 EXTENDED BALLROOM VERSION) - D.C. LARUE
Harvey Sutherland played this as his last song during his sunset slot at Savaya in Uluwatu Bali back in June. We had been traveling since 5am that morning and went straight from the airport to this insane cliffside club during sunset, the whole experience felt like a dream and this track was a perfect way to end the daylight hours before we sped up the BPM and played B2B between the six of us.
WEAK BECOME HEROES (ASHLEY BEEDLE’S LOVE BUG VOCAL) - THE STREETS
One of my all time favourites. Makes me nostalgic for all the festival moments I’ve enjoyed over the past 15 years and excited for all the future sunsets shared with strangers still to come.
IN THE SHADOWS - LOVEBIRDS
Brings me back to breathing in dust from 2000 dancers at Inner Varnika festival (RIP) in Victoria back in 2016. The festival is set in a large crater which feels like the set of Mad Max and one of the DJ’s played this track getting close to sunset on the last day which was huge moment.
RETRO/GRADE - MODA
Another 10 minute track with a sparse breakdown and long pause which pulls you in before the bassline fires up again. The synth melodies are super playful and fun which is a great way to set the tone of the night.
SPIRAL - TODD JERJE
A great mix of retro 80’s sounding synth stabs and modern production, this tracks feels super fruity and playful. Todd Terje always delivers.
COME SAVE ME (PACHANGA BOYS REMIX) - JAGWA MA
To be honest I think one suits sunrise a little better but I’m sure it’d go down a treat at sunset as well. Another long, hypnotic groove to lose yourself in.
LOLA’S THEME - THE SHAPESHIFTERS
This track is just so uplifting and energetic. I’ve got so many fond memories of hearing those horns and strings at parties and festivals.
SUPERSTYLIN’ - GROOVE ARMADA
This track doesn’t need a write up. It’s been a classic for over 20 years and always gets the crowd heaving, no matter the setting.
