Bring Me The Horizon's MASSSIVE Australian tour has kicked off!
The huge Bring Me The Horizon tour, supported by Sleep Token, Make Them Suffer and Daine, kicked off in Melbourne and Sydney last week with a trio of arena shows. With tickets to the full original tour announcement selling out in mere hours, second shows were announced for both the Sydney Qudos Bank Arena and Brisbane Riverstage shows, bringing the total tour capacity to more than 80,000 tickets!
Bring Me The Horizon last visited our shores for the Good Things 2022 run, the festival's first show back since the pandemic. This is their first standalone tour since their 2019 'First Love' Australian tour, which saw them appear with You Me At Six, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes, and Trophy Eyes. They have even more material to draw on since this tour, with 2020's release of POSTHUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR including new hits including Kingslayer feat. BABYMETAL, Parasite Eve, and Obey feat. YUNGBLUD (which lucky attendees of Good Things might've been fortunate enough to see).
The progression of their sound from album-to-album has also included significant progression in their live production, with their gangbusters lighting, stage design, and audio engineering all culminating in shows that can only be described as fully immersive experiences that'll leave a lasting impression. With the first few setlists indicating a mix of new hits, older tunes and throwback bangers, so they look to be delivering a well-rounded show that'll suit fans that have joined their audience at any stage.
Sleep Token have gone from strength to strength since the start of 2023. Already riding high off the back of increasing attention towards their 2021 album This Place Will Become Your Tomb (with fan-favourites including Alkaline and The Love You Want), the single drops from their 3rd album Take Me Back to Eden took the internet by storm. Dropping singles Chokehold and The Summoning within 24hrs of each other saw both fans and newcomers whipped into a frenzy, especially on social media site TikTok, where reactions to the groove change at the end of The Summoning went viral. Following this up with another double-drop of singles just a couple of weeks later cemented their position as one of the most anticipated albums of the year. We saw them here just before the album dropped, on a (not surprisingly) sold-out run of headline shows around the country in April/May last year, and before that as opener for Northlane's 2022 Obsidian tour. The Down Under tour will see them play much bigger venues than their last two runs, and it's exciting to see what they can deliver when given bigger rooms to work with.
Australia's own Make Them Suffer and Daine are joining the run as openers, hailing from Perth and Melbourne respectively. It's great to see an international tour incorporating an Australian act into the full set of shows, and it's even better when they bring two.
Make Them Suffer brings a heavy flavour to the opening, often described as progressive metalcore with a deathcore flair. They've released a killer set of singles in recent years, including Contraband (with Courtney LaPlante of Spritibox), Doomswitch, and Ghost of Me, with new single 'Epitaph' dropping just days before the tour began. We haven't seen them tour here since 2022, so it'll be great to see some of these newer songs showcased on the tour.
Daine's atmospheric alt-pop sound is well-suited to the opening slot on these shows, incorporating some of the electronic elements woven throughout Bring Me The Horizon's more recent sound. (they also have some of the most chaotic-energy merch I've seen, and I kinda want to buy one of everything)
Tickets are sold out for the remainder of the run, but you might be lucky enough to cop one on Tixel if you keep your eyes peeled. Remember - NEVER buy from Facebook or Instagram comments!
