If you’ve been keeping tabs on Brisbane’s local music scene then there’s no doubt you’ve come across woozy newcomers Passionfruit.

After making an entrance with their debut EP ‘Candy Skies’ early last year, the 5-piece are quickly becoming a highlight act of the city’s next-generation musicians, and its not hard to see why.

Passionfruit is a breath of fresh air from Brissy’s dominant rock scene, radiating an infectious coastal sound with swirly melodies and sultry vocals and their newest single ‘Fuzzy’ is a testament to exactly that.

But don’t just take our word for it, we’ve got the euphorically beautiful track here for you to listen to right now before its official release this Sunday the 22nd of August.

Give it a listen…

We also had a chat to the band about the track… Check it out!

So, you guys are releasing a beautiful new single titled ‘Fuzzy’ this Sunday, talk to us a bit about that! What does the song mean to you?

SARAH: Fuzzy has been such a long time in the making and we are so stoked to finally be releasing it on the 22nd of August. For me it’s one of those songs where the whole creative process has been so special, not only personally but I think for the rest of the band as well.

When I first started writing this song earlier this year, I just had a fun chord progression in mind. These same chords would then go on to make the chorus of Fuzzy and soon I began to find lyrics within them.

Tell us about the songs writing and recording process?

SARAH: I pretty much just started to sing what the chords were making me feel. It felt like when you are out with friends and you are just so completely and wholly caught up in this feeling of euphoria. You don’t care to hear about superficial things hence the lyrics “don’t tell me ‘bout your boring love life” because you are just so present and high on the feeling of life.

So I brought these lyrics and basic ideas to the band and they turned it into what it is today. Each member of the band created their own riffs and licks which feature in the final version of the song. Our front man Mitch is the powerhouse behind all of Passionfruit’s recording and mixing processes - which is super handy. We all just came over to his place one afternoon and banged out all of our different parts. After this he mixed away all of those tracks into exactly the fuzzy vibe we were going for.

What influenced the track?

SARAH: I feel as though ‘Fuzzy’ delivers a kind of warmth and breeziness within it’s vibrant melodies. So, whilst creating this song, I feel like I’ve definitely been channeling some inspiration and influence from other Aussie artists such as Spacey Jane, Ocean Alley and The Terrys.

What do you want listeners to take away from this release?

SARAH: When asked what the song is about, I say it is about a feeling, at least that’s what I was trying to describe. This feeling of euphoria and being wholly present in your happiness, and that is exactly what I’d love for listeners to take away from this release.

What can fans expect from Passionfruit for the rest of the year? Could we be seeing more new music!?
SARAH: Despite it being August, Passionfruit absolutely has more in store for this year which we are so keen to share with fans and listeners. Possibly another single on the way? We might just have to wait and see.
