The Butterfly Effect Presents: Bronte Eve

Untitled-1.pngUntitled-1.png

Headlining at our second edition of The Butterfly Effect will be electro-groove princess - Bronte Eve.

Powerhouse Bronte Eve is the fresh face of Australian RnB & soul music. Wearing her heart on her sleeve and baring her soul through her music, Bronte brings utterly enrapturing tunes, with her sweeping vocals acting as an instrument in their own right

Sprinkled with layers of dreamy harmonies, guitar, and strings, these elements perfectly emphasize the otherworldly nature of her voice and rawness of her lyricism.

We had a chat with Bronte about the importance of The Butterfly Effect, what it’s like to be a female in today’s music industry and why we still have so far to go…

Show some love and check it out…

Hey Bronte, how are you!?

BRONTE: I'm doing okay! it’s been a few crazy years for me. Being 20 years old in the current world is strange, but nonetheless forever grateful for my life. It’s just the good ol coming of age feels.

First things first for anyone that isn’t familiar with your project – describe your music to us in 4 words…

BRONTE: Soulful, sad, honest & complicated (contextually hahahah)

How do you feel after releasing that fire single ‘Mess I Made’ last year? Can we expect more tunes this year?

BRONTE: Yes, more! I've honestly had a pretty heavy year, and it’s gotten in the way of releasing my music, but I have two singles finished and waiting for me to press the release button! It feels great after releasing “Mess I Made” like my new sound is finally captured, it had been 3 years since I released anything, but I still feel like I have so much more to show.

What do you want people to take away from your music?

BRONTE: I guess my honesty, I really don't hide behind my lyrics which to be fair scares the life out of me and is hard to portray sometimes. I have always benefited from my honesty, good or bad. I prefer to live without the bandaid. I want people to find similarity and a point of inspiration through my music.

What does it mean to be a part of Ungrained’s ‘Butterfly Effect’?

BRONTE: Being a female artist has its perks but also brings a lot of obstacles, being part of a female/non-binary music event makes me feel not only heard but represented in an industry that can feel suffocating at times.

The creation of ‘Butterfly Effect’ is to showcase, celebrate and support QLD up-and-coming female and non-binary musicians – why do you think this is of importance?

BRONTE: I believe it’s always important to create safe spaces for minority groups. Women in music have always been faced with hurdles and stereotypes which either stop us from being heard or going for the things we want. The Butterfly Effect allows us women to be heard and represented.

Now, tell me about your experience in the music industry – As an artist has how you identify affected aspects of your career? Have you experienced sexism/inequality firsthand?

BRONTE: Definitely, unfortunately being a woman I have felt not only the pressure to perform a certain way but also the stereotype of what I'm expected to know. It can be degrading and make me feel like because of my identity, I won’t ever have the same experience as a man in the industry. This is where events like ungrained make a change.

Do you think there’s a double standard in the industry and that it is much harder to succeed in the industry when you are from a marginalized group?

BRONTE: I definitely do, unfortunately music can be an easy place to take advantage of gender inequality. I'd do anything for my passion and sometimes that means being underpaid or mansplained. Well I used to, not anymore (thanks Ungrained).

If you could change one thing about the Brisbane/GC music industry, what would it be?

BRONTE: I would enjoy more inclusive and maybe progressive events. I'm all about a fun time and a sick band but events with a purpose behind them are always more fulfilling. I’d love to see an event that represents and fights for minority/issues we are faced in these areas. a protest gig some might call it?

What do you think needs to be done moving forward?

BRONTE: More inclusivity on line ups & encouragement for women to get into the music industry ( i miss my ladies)

Now to support local, give a shout out to 3 other female/non-binary artists making their way through the music scene that you love!

BRONTE: Definitely the ever most talented - Euca, DVNA & The oogars!
