The Sorely Awaited News Has Finally Dropped: Paramore Is Returning To Australia

After a myriad of cryptic social media posts and teasers, the sorely awaited news has finally dropped: Paramore is returning to Australia for the first time in 5 years.

It seems that Australia has somehow hit the musical jackpot in the past month, with a crop of international announcements springing up for late 2023 to early 2024. The latest to join the list of all-stars is none other than US trio Paramore who will be sweeping the country for the first time since the After Laughter era in 2018. The band famously went on a hiatus lasting the time since their last visit, sparked by the passing of guitarist Taylor York’s family friend.

“I didn’t know I had this capacity until that moment. We realized nothing is worth risking our health.” York said in the tell-all interview with the Guardian explaining the decision. Being the soundtrack to the coming of age of half of the millennial population comes with a huge pressure, and the hiatus gave the band time to explore their identities outside of the Paramore dynamic. With little than a hush’s notice, the favourite fiery haired fronted trio dropped their six studio album This Is Why in February of 2023. While After Laughter famously stirred the fanbase up for leaving the emo chrysalis behind for a fresh 80s pop sound, the band continue to genre bend with This Is Why being a jittery post-punk musing, inspired by the likes of Bloc Party and adding a sense of maturity to the teenageness of Paramore’s previous discography.

“We don’t want to be a nostalgia band” Hayley Williams said in response to the band’s transformation, and right she is. While some bands struggle to leave the comfort of the sound that catapulted them to stardom, Paramore successfully left the nest with After Laughter and This is Why receiving rave reviews from media critics.

Raving doesn’t just stop with the media though, as fans went berserk early last week to the minimalist way that Paramore announced their return to Australia. A post with the simple content of “G’day - 6.27.” went viral, and by the time the 27th rolled around fans were rewarded with Frontier Touring’s official lineup with pre-sale dates announced. One-upping contemporary Taylor Swift, Paramore will be playing Melbourne, Sydney AND Brisbane, along with Auckland for New Zealand fans.
