INTERVIEW: Hermitude are back and they've entered their "fun club era" with Celebrate

The acclaimed Australian electronic duo, Hermitude, is making a grand comeback with a fresh twist you won't expect! They're calling it their "fun club era," and their latest single, "Celebrate," stands as a testament to their unyielding commitment to pushing the boundaries of their craft.

At Alter Wave, we're thrilled to announce the launch of our new platform, Alter Rave, dedicated to showcasing the best in electronic music. We were fortunate enough to sit down with the duo and delve into the details of their exciting new track.

Hey El Gusto and Luke Dubs my name is Samuel Fudge here from Alter Rave and it is an absolute pleasure to do this interview with you, I just wanted to first mention congratulations on the new single! How does it feel to have this track out?

Thanks very much, it feels great! We’ve been exploring a lot of new sounds and tempos in the studio over the last year, and this was always a standout track that we wanted to release into the wild.

This is your first release since the Mirror Mountain album and the 10th anniversary of HyperParadise, why was Celebrate the first track you wanted to release?

I guess it encapsulates the feeling of where we’re at right now on our journey. We feel like Mirror Mountain was a bridge between our older work into our new sound and Celebrate has a real triumphant uplifting feel to it yet still delivers that big energy which we’re feeling at the moment.

Your audience has come to expect at this point that with every Hermitude release you guys push the boundaries on your sound, why did you guys decide to venture into drum and bass and what were the influences for this new sound?

Right now in the studio we’re really enjoying writing uptempo music. It’s really refreshing and it allows us to approach writing in a whole new light where we aren’t confined to any patterns or habits we might have once had. Drum and bass is a genre we’ve always loved since we were kids and the new wave of producers like Bou and Hedex and Pola & Bryson are really inspiring us right now.

You guys are currently smack bang in the middle of an enormous US tour, how is the response to the new track from the US crowds?

It’s been amazing. Drum and bass is really taking hold over here so crowds are losing it when we drop Celebrate, which is sick!

What was one plugin or piece of analog gear that was essential in the creation of Celebrate?

We made the bass sound on Serum and the horns came from Native Instruments Kontakt Player Session Horns.

Here at Alter rave we are keen to give back, What advice do you have for aspiring electronic music producers looking to make their mark in the industry?

Listen to as much music as you can, new and old. This will really help to find your inspiration. Then when it comes time to producing, work hard on forging your own sound. It’s not easy, but if you can find that element that will help you stand out from the pack, it’s going to help you a lot down the line.

and Because we’re a Brisbane publication, tell us your favourite memory about Brisbane, could be a show or just a random time

We did a gig in Brisbane one night and someone threw an inflatable couch on stage which hit Gusto in the head while he was trying to mix.

One last formal question, you’ve got to give us a sneak peek into what’s next from Hermitude.

As usual expect us not to sit still..
