INTERVIEW: Odd Mob Unleashes Electrifying Suite Of ‘CLUB ROMPAS’ On New EP
Following on from the release of peak time weapon ‘XTC’, Australian cultivator of dance Odd Mob dishes up a mind-bending collection of heaters for his new EP ‘Club Rompas’
Hey Odd Mob my name is Samuel Fudge here from Alter Rave and it is an absolute pleasure to do this interview with you, I just wanted to first mention congratulations on Club Rompas!! I am obsessed with how raw and energetic this EP is. How does it feel to have this EP out into the world?
Super good! nice to finally get a few of my older projects out into the world :)
Right off the back I need to applaud you on the brilliance of the EP name, why did Club Rompas feel like the perfect title to sum up this collection of songs?
These tracks are just nonsensical club tracks so it felt perfect to just have a simple EP title that does what it says on the packet haha
Left to Right was easily one of the biggest club anthems not just in Australia but internationally last year, Did you feel the pressure on Club Rompas?
Nah not at all really. I'm just trying to make sure I have fun with whatever I'm doing and to try and keep things interesting not just for the listener but also myself.
You’ve been playing some of the biggest festivals in the world including Coachella and EDC Las Vegas, how have you found the US crowd’s response to your sets compared to here in Australia?
The US crowds have been absolutely nuts. Different vibes from some parts of Australia but rowdy all the same.
You’ve joked about detouring from Tech House on one of your most recent Tik Toks, What has influenced the change in tempo that has seen you now push around that 135-140 bpm?
Just for something different. Got a bunch of 128 focussed stuff still to come, but it's nice to mix it up :)
You’re about to head back overseas again, any shows, in particular, you’re most looking forward to?
Super pumped for HARD summer :) One festival I've always been dying to play.
We’re really looking forward to catching you at Mekka Fest here in Bris, What can people who haven’t experienced an Odd Mob show expect?
They can expect a few IDs and some strange dance moves haha
So here at Alter Rave we are keen to give back, What advice do you have for aspiring electronic music producers looking to make their mark in the industry?
Definitely think about your reason for being a producer in the first place and hold that close to you at all times. If that reason remains as the driving force of what you do, you'll always succeed.
and because we’re all about amplifying the Brisbane Electronic scene, are there any artists/DJs here locally that have caught your attention?
Midnight dance party have been smashing it lately
Final formal question (and not to put too much pressure on you) But can you give us an insight into what’s next for Odd Mob for the rest of 2023 going into 2024?
New tracks every month, another EP && some remixes for some pretty big names :)
