PUNK-ROCK POWERHOUSE VERUM RELEASE HOT NEW SINGLE ‘SCARS’ - INTERVIEW
15 days into 2021 and Gold Coast powerhouse Verum have already cemented this year as a huge one with their newest track ‘Scars’.
The trio of Kaden Perkinson, Logan Taylor and Zane Gillespie have proved themselves unstoppable with their explosively vigorous live performances and equally invigorating records.
Their newest moshpit anthem ‘Scars’ trades catchy riffs with a hard-hitting chorus, that is sure to be a crowd-favourite.
We had a chat to the boy’s about the new release…
G’day fella’s, first things first, for anyone that doesn’t know ‘VERUM’ – describe your band in 4 words…
LOGAN: WE'RE GOING HARD TONIGHT!
KADEN: In your face loud
ZANE: Beers, high energy, explosive
Love it, how did you boys all meet and form your band?
LOGAN: So it kinda began back in high school days when a bunch of us would always jam whenever we could; before school, lunch, recess, free periods pretty much whenever. But it didn't really really kick into gear until Kaden decided to actually do something more with this. So the 3 of us eventually got our shit together and started writing some of the tunes you hear today in Kaden's basement with the dodgiest equipment and amps you've ever seen. After us 3 jamming for a while and really clicking we hit some local pubs and venus and the rest is history. No doubt we have come a long way from our school jams and garageband days to bring you Verum today!
KADEN: We had a lot of fun writing music together and decided to test it out in front of people, from then on we've been playing all up and down the coast from playing our first show ever at the local Currumbin pub to selling out our first ever showdown at the brass monkey in Sydney. It's been a wild ride so far as a band but it feels like we've only just begun. We're excited for what we have in store for the future
Talk to us about ‘SCARS’ – what does the song mean to you guys?
KADEN: The general idea/theme for the song is a message to embrace your metaphorical scars. Learn from past mistakes and unfortunate events and let them be the thing that helps you grow and learn. The song was written when I (Kaden) was having a tough time with my partner and our relationship. She had some bad experiences in life and in relationships that were taking a toll on us. The song was written to help inspire and encourage her to move forward from those experiences and grow on to be the person she wants to be.
KADEN: In the hook "I'll be there to catch you when you fall" it's my way of telling her that even though you may stumble I'll be around to help get her back on her feet.
The message of the song can apply to anyone going through some rough situations. Music is interpretive so the song can apply to anyone not just a specific person.
What can fans expect from ‘VERUM’ in 2021!?
Zane: Hope you're ready to forget 2020 cause we are. We're hitting the ground running with shows, new songs and enough energy between us to power our own amps. Your ears, neck and souls can't prepare you for this chapter of VERUM.
Kaden: We've got plans to put out so much fun content this year. We have an EP ready and waiting to be released, some fun music videos and live track ideas. We plan to take this band up and down the east coast sometime this year so be ready for it.
