Joining us at our very first edition of The Butterfly Effect will be sublime songstress: Lucy Francesca Dron

Bringing confidence to match a percipient composition, Lucy blends edgy post-punk with seamlessly mesmerizing vocal virtuosity and intricate chords strummed straight from the heart.

She takes you on a sometimes painful yet healing journey through her ethereal, passionate, and rich inner world.

Drawing from a great wealth of emotion, her powerful yet vulnerable voice blends seamlessly with luscious and intricate chords to create a sonic force of feeling.

Lucy’s music offers a post punk, psychedelic rock vibe mixed with lo-fi folk and a strong blend of jazz.

We had a chat to her about the The Butterfly Effect and why it’s important to shine a light on these issues and showcase these artists.

Show some love, check it out…

Hey Lucy, how are you?

I am great thank you!

First things first, for anyone that isn’t familiar with your project  – describe your music to us in 4 words…

Personal, eclectic, soulful sounds

How do you feel after releasing your latest single ‘What Is Next’? Can we expect more tunes this year?

I feel really excited that I'm finally releasing music ! Yes, I have a new single coming out very soon as well as an EP later in the year.

What do you want people to take away from your music?

I want to amplify emotions - to have songs people play when they want to heal or let things out. With technicality I aim to push boundaries sonically and challenge expectations of how songs have to sound and be structured.

What does it mean to you to be a part of Ungraineds ‘Butterfly Effect’?

It means I get to celebrate and perform along side a few of the many amazing female and non binary musicians that are creating art in QLD. There is such an incredible influx of these artists making an impact locally and nationally and it's extremely inspiring to watch and be a part of it.

The creation of the ‘Butterfly Effect’ is to celebrate and support QLD up-and-coming female and non-binary musicians – why do you think this is of importance?

There truly is such amazing art flourishing in QLD at the moment, especially from women and marginalized musicians. I feel as though right now more then ever there is so much of it, and it's so important to shine light on.

Now, tell me about your experience in the music industry– As an artist has how you identify affected aspects of your career? Have you experienced sexism/inequality firsthand?

I have been fortunate to not personally experience prejudice, or feel that I have. I feel very privileged to feel empowered as a woman in music in my local scene and I think that enables me to be vulnerable and forward in sharing my music.

Do you think there’s a double standard in the industry and that it is much harder to succeed in the industry when you are from a marginalized group?

I think there probably is in the deeper ends of the music scene but I haven't had to witness it myself. Industry and consumers like to categorise artists so they are easier and more clear to sell, hence why genres and such exist. So I guess if you are in a marginalised group that is perceived as being less “popular”, less “consumable” to the public it is harder to succeed. But I believe good music will shine through inevitably.

If you could change one thing about the Brisbane music industry, what would it be?

It would be that image shouldn’t matter so much to succeed. I sometimes feel that good art is underrated if the artist doesn't have a specific social media structure and image, and then they are sidelined as "less professional" or developed which can lead to people not taking the time to really listen to their music. That being said I do completely understand why it is important and I am learning more and more about it as I go.

I just remember when first entering the scene I felt like all I had was music I wanted to share and no grasp on my image and social media or how I wanted to be perceived. At first it was hard to navigate and frustrated me a lot but I'm now learning that you can turn social media and image into a really exciting form of art that is there to amplify and enhance the music you are creating.

What do you think needs to be done moving forward?

I think people need to continue events like these, to really celebrate the great things women are doing and how incredible it is that there is this amount of talent and power surging throughout QLD at the moment . It's incredible

Now to support local, give a shout out to 3 other female/non-binary artists making their way through the music scene that you love.

I'm absolutely loving Nicole McKinney , Danika Paprika and Asha Jefferies
