INTERVIEW: VOIID To Headline Young Henry’s ‘Best Served Loud’
Article by Darcy Goss
In a world full of injustice, inequality and ignorance, local legends VOIID are lending a voice to those in need of it as they strive to reinvent the role of female.
Combining unconventional mosh-pit anthem riffs and woozily soft turning razor sharp vocals, VOIID are Brisbane’s force to be reckoned with. Gritty, grungy, unfiltered and fearless they urge listeners to embrace their individuality whilst saying a big fat F YOU to society’s deep-rooted issues.
Kicking off 2021 with a belated east coast tour for their latest EP ‘Socioanomaly’, the band is showing no sign of things slowing down, with an LP in the works and more shows outside of our local.
But until that kick’s off, check out our interview with VOIID where we chat about their latest tour, starring in Hope D’s ‘Addict’ music video and what fans can expect at tonights show!
Helloooo VOIID how the heck are we!?
We’re doing great thanks!
First things first, for anyone that isn’t familiar with ‘VOIID’ – describe your music to us in 4 words….
Confronting, vulnerable, loud and angry.
Now you released a powerful EP titled ‘Socioanomaly’ in June last year, how was the response to that?
The response was great! We definitely feel like we made the impact we were hoping to make with the release. This EP had a lot more heart in it, and shared a lot more of our own experiences. It was a vulnerable release for sure, so the fact it’s been received so well is super cool.
You’ve also recently come off a belated east coast album tour, how did that go?
The tour was insane, we had so much fun! Hopefully we’ll get to tour the rest of Australia soon enough.
And the four of you also starred in Hope D’s ‘Addict’ music video a few weeks ago (which was so sick) how was that whole experience?
Besides (Mina) almost busting my ankle tripping on some props, it was real fun, haha. Hope is so great to work with. We were amped to be a part of it, and the song is sooooooo god damn good. Wasn’t mad listening to that on a loop all day, Hope absolutely kills it. Anji also did the makeup for the music video!
Why is your music important to you and what do you want people to take away from it?
Our music is important to us because it’s real. It gives everyone a part of us, and they can take from that what they will. We want people to find themselves in our experiences, we say it all the time, art should make you feel less alone; If we can do that, we’ve done what we came to do.
Now you’ve got your show at Greaser tonight (article embargoed for publishing on Friday) for Young Henry’s ‘Best Served Loud’ series – what can punters expect from tonight’s performance?
You ever seen a hot gay smash a guitar?
What can fans expect from VOIID for the rest of the year?
It’s no secret we’re working on a debut LP, so definitely expect that, and hopefully just some more shows outside our local.
Now to support local, give a shout out to 3 other artists making their way through the music scene that you love?
Big Blue Eyes, Melaleuca, and Perve Endings! (extra shout out to Girl and Girl, cause they’re sick).
Finally, to wrap it up let’s do a few rapid-fire Q’s:
· Favourite Brisbane venue?
The Zoo for sure.
· Best beverage?
V, 100%. We’re still waiting for a sponsorship if you happen to know someone..
